What is sushi?

Boredom was killing me yesterday that I had to do something that would probably escape boredom. Since I was quite hungry, I decided to search some food recipes and watch the video in making the recipe that I chose.   That way, I happened to turn my unwanted boredom into enjoyment though I’m drooling over those foods while watching. I found one video that made me want to watch it right away; it’s about “How to eat sushi.”  I thought the main lesson for that video was how to use chopsticks on eating the sushi since the thumbnail showed only the chopstick and I disregarded the title which was my mistake. I have learned a lot of things from that video and it made me realize that being Japanese isn’t that easy, of course, since I’m used to our culture and not with theirs, but compare to our culture, we do not have that strict principle than of the Japanese people.

What is sushi by the way?

In Japanese cuisine, sushi (寿司, 鮨, 鮓?) is vinegared rice, usually topped with other ingredients, including fish, various meats, and vegetables. Outside of Japan, sushi is sometimes misunderstood to mean the raw fish itself, or even any fresh raw-seafood dishes. In Japan, sliced raw fish alone is called sashimi and is distinct from sushi, as sashimi is the raw fish component, not the rice component. The word sushi itself comes from an archaic grammatical form of a word that is no longer used in other contexts; literally, "sushi" means "it’s sour".

There are various types of sushi: sushi served rolled inside nori (dried and pressed layer sheets of seaweed or alga) called makizushi (巻き) or rolls; sushi made with toppings laid with hand-formed clumps of rice called nigirizushi (にぎり); toppings stuffed into a small pouch of fried tofu called inarizushi; and toppings served scattered over a bowl of sushi rice called chirashi-zushi (ちらし).

What are the types of sushi?

Oshizushi (pressed sushi)

Inari-zushi (stuffed sushi)

Chirashizushi (scattered sushi)
